Family tales from Ukraine
Who is your family?
For some people the answer requires an elaboration of stories related to their past and their influence in the present. I met Danyil, born in Ukraine in Tchernivtsi and arrived in Italy with his mother Irina at the age of two. Wrapped in a blanket, in the silence of an unconscious migration. He tells me about his memories of his father, a figure physically distant but close through his mother tongue, and of Resi, the one who took care of his growing up. To the question, he takes his family book, pointing photos of his father and the times of his childhood spent among the fields. He tells me about his grandfather, the one who taught him fishing, a passion to which he devotes much time as a way to escape mentally. In the house where he started his life again, here's the family portrait of Danyil.
